Tyler is the manager of the Ale House, a little restaurant and bar in Cape Cod that serves the local clientele. His younger sister, Rose works as a waitress for him at the small family-run business.[1]

After Ash Upton enters the restaurant looking for a job, having noticed the Help Wanted sign on the front door,[2] Rose brings Ash to see Tyler for an interview. Tyler appears to have a lackadaisical approach to job experience, and he hires Ash on the spot despite her lack of experience waitressing. When Ash becomes suspicious, Tyler reassures her that, despite his preference, the work uniform is a polo shirt with the Ale House logo, and khaki bottoms. He tells her that shorts or a skirt would be best for the heat. He assigns her to Rose for training on her first shift that evening.[3]
Because of state laws governing the drinking age of minors and the suitability of minors handling alcohol, Tyler is responsible for filling and serving any alcoholic drinks their customers order from Rose and Ash.[4]
